C17 Council
The C17 Council
With so many different types of childhood cancer, no single hospital typically sees enough patients at one time who are similar enough to allow effective research.
Much of the progress against childhood cancer, worldwide, is attributable to the willingness and commitment of pediatric cancer researchers, oncologists and blood disorder specialists to pool their knowledge and resources. This has been the spirit behind and the major reason for the success of the Children's Oncology Group, based in the United States and of which all the children's hospitals in Canada supported by the Childhood Cancer Foundation are members.
The need to pool knowledge and to work together toward the common goal of beating childhood cancer is also the driving force behind the Council of Canadian Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Directors known as C17. Formed in 2001, this Council represents the pediatric oncology and blood disorder leaders from all 17 children's hospitals and cancer treatment centres in Canada.
The Childhood Cancer Foundation Canada is proud to be a key funding partner of the Council in its research and associated work to defeat childhood cancer.
