I firmly believe nothing will ever replace a deep tissue personal massage from a therapist, but there are tools which can help our clients in between sessions.
Whenever I suggest a client purchases a foam roller, I’m either met with blank stares or this question. Which foam roller is the best foam roller.
This question is actually pretty simple to answer. Almost every foam roller is the same, it’s a cylinder to use for self myofascial release. There are a few rollers which differentiate themselves. The first is the Rumbleroller series.
The Rumble Roller is unlike any other roller on the market. It’s equipped with large studs which dig into the muscle tissue. As a massage therapist I can tell you, those studs don’t mimic a massage. I find them to be gimmicky and in general the rumble roller isn’t worth your investment.
The other roller is the Trigger Point 2.0, which in my mind is the best foam roller on the market. It’s similar to other foam rollers, it’s a cylinder designed to gently massage muscles. The main difference is the grid has a PVC pipe on the inside which makes it sturdier. It also manufactured out of a high quality foam, unlike some of the others on the market. The varying surface textures isn’t all that useful, but occasionally I will suggest using a different surface for a different muscle.
Using a foam roller is actually very simple. You put the muscle group that is bothering you on the foam roller. The goal is to try and place as much weight as possible while maintaining balance. Once you’ve gotten your body into the correct position you simply roll back and forth over the muscle group and allow it to relax as much as possible.
Changing the angle which the roller contacts the muscle can also make a huge difference. And if you hit a trouble area pause for a few seconds and let the tension dissipate.
You can literally use a foam roller to massage every body part. This is a great way to work on trouble spots in between sessions.

I often preach the merits of alternative medicine but how well does that work with the older generations? As we age, time starts to take a toll on our bodies. With the long lifespan of the current times, most people will spend more time dealing with these effects that come with longer lives. In this article I want to provide you with a couple (four) quick steps or shortcuts to an overall improved health. The idea here is not to cure you from any or all diseases that you might suffer from. No, the point with this article is to give you some guidelines and actionable items whereby, if you implement them properly, will feel and experience an immediate effect.
You might find that some of the ideas put forward here will not resonate with you in the first place. My suggestion is to still give it a try. Minimal three times or days in a row. If you’re still feeling uncomfortable then try something else. If you do feel some effect make sure you continue.
The suggested quick steps are aimed to give you an effect after about 3 times or 3 days. Nothing works immediately immediate if you understand what I’m saying.
Don’t try two quick steps at the same time. Start with the one that is most appealing to you and then move on to the next one. Stick to the one you feels gives you the biggest benefits. Lets get to the list.
The ultimate purpose of meditation is to quiet the mind. This is probably the hardest to achieve of all the quick tips. Strangely enough it is the easiest to do or start with. All you need is some quiet space where you can be on your own and where you won’t be disturbed. The hard part is to not give up, which is what most people do.
Find yourself a quiet room where you won’t be disturbed. Make sure you can spend at least 15 minutes there. Either sit down or lie down in a comfortable position. No music and as little other noise as possible. Close your eyes and empty your mind.
If emptying your mind is difficult (which for most of us will be) think only one though: “Empty my mind” and repeat this as a mantra. As soon as your mind wanders off and you find yourself thinking a thought, go back to this simple mantra, “Empty my mind“. Do this for at least 8 minutes at a time (as often as you like, but at least once a day).
