The Roots of Cut Off Cancer
In 2003, two grade 10 students at Unionville High School in Ontario conceived an idea for a school-wide fundraiser while driving to a charity ball. One of those students, Harriet Lye, had been diagnosed and treated for leukemia (AML) in 2002. The other student, Petra Wildgoose, in response to her friend's courageous and successful battle with cancer, wanted to raise money for childhood cancer research. A fundraising plan that could raise significant dollars - and involve their school community - was needed. After brainstorming this idea, Cut Off Cancer was created.
Harriet is now enjoying her second year of university and she continues to volunteer her time to support the Childhood Cancer Foundation with the same courage and commitment that has made Cut Off Cancer a wonderful new part of our organization.
