Spokeman Tour
Can you help Tim Harriman raise money and awareness for childhood cancer?
At age 14, Calgarian Tim Harriman was diagnosed in September 2002 with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
Faced with 2 ½ years of treatment, which included high dose chemotherapy and radiation and a poor prognosis, Tim questioned the worth going through the treatments. The support of family, friends, church, school and community helped Tim find the determination and courage to fight his cancer. The treatments were successful.
Already a church, school and community youth leader, Tim has a dream set when he was first diagnosed to raise funds for the Childhood Cancer Foundation Candlelighters Canada; to share awareness of the impact of cancer on children that he gained during his treatments and hospitalization; and, as a survivor, to mentor and provide hope to children and teens dealing with cancer.
The Plan
An avid mountain and road biker, Tim plans to cycle from Victoria, BC, to St. John's, NL, beginning in early June 2007. This trip of 7700 km requires a support team and the use of an RV for Tim and the team.
Project Overview
- To cycle across Canada and show that with determination and support it is possible to achieve a high level of physical fitness after surviving childhood cancer
- To encourage organizations and individuals to make donations to the Childhood Cancer Foundation of Canada
- To hold public speaking events at local schools, community service groups and through local and national media outlets.
- To visit the oncology units at all seventeen children's hospitals across Canada and speak with patients and their families.
