First Issue

Welcome to E-NEWS! We will be getting this to you about every two weeks from now on. We are going to keep it brief and straightforward: our way of keeping our friends in the childhood cancer fight informed and focused. So enjoy it and tell us what you think.

Research Awards

The C17 Research Network of the Council of Canadian Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Directors (CCPHOD), using our Foundation’s funds, has awarded its first grants to Canadian researchers, both working at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.

  • Dr Yigal Dror: $41,500 per year for 2 years for his work on Inherited Marrow Failure Syndromes;
  • Dr Lillian Sung: $17,000 for her work on Genetic Variations and the Risk of Infection in Canadian Children with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

We’ll share more about their work in the next issue of our Foundation newsletter.

Foundation Bursary Program

Deadline is June 30 for applications for childhood cancer survivors or patients attending college or university in September 2005. (application attached)

Fundraising Success

Penny Drive

Congratulations to the kids in 5RG at Osprey Woods Public School in Mississauga, Ontario, class 5RG and their teacher Mr. Gillingham. Under the inspired leadership of Ajona Asokumar, Nida Ahmad, Kyle Soman, Victoria Osteroff and Jonathan Stewart they have just completed their first penny drive and have raised $2,310.00. A great job!
