I have friend who has cut off her long hair. She had heard
of an organization here in Toronto that takes hair and makes
it into wigs for cancer children. I can not find out any
thing on this. One friend did say that there was a TV show
about it but she could not remember anything about it either.
Any help would be greatful. Thanks

I have been involved with a wonderful program for the
past year called Hats Off For Cancer. What I do is collect
brand new "COOL" hats and distribute them to canadian
children who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy. So
far 5,000 hats have been collected. I have distributed them
to various children's hospitals across Canada. Please let
know of any children's summer cancer camps coming up and I
will be sure to send some hats. Also if your hospital hasn't
received their hats yet, please let me know of a contact
person and I will send some hats your way. If you require
any further information please email me. Thank you for your
time. The web site should be up and running very shortly
so please drop by and visit. Thanks again.

We live in a city with little support for pediatric oncology. However, we will be getting a POGO Satellite this year. Have any other cities been in our circumstances. How did you make things work before the satellite, and then once the satellite was in place. I would like to be a catalyst for good change in our community. Any info I can bring to light will help to make things smoother for the many families who travel 2 1/2 hours to our nearest care center.

Hello! I know that this board is for Candlelighters in Canada, however the site for Candlelighters USA does not seem to have a board like this. I am desperate for info. My son Nicholas was diagnosed (12/06/99)with non-ossceous Ewing's Sarcoma, with the tumor localized in his right neck. Prognostically, things look pretty good. My son is two years old. I would like to correspond hopefully with someone in a similar situation...if not it's O.K.
Thank you.

I was honoured to meet and work with families and their children, diagnosed with cancer, at CHWO in London, Ontario. I was completing an internship in Art Therapy at the time. I would love to continue to pursue opportunities to work in this field in Toronto. If anyone has any ideas or info that could help me, please contact me.
Also - thank you to Candlelighters for all their important work and a special hello to Kristie Bird if you are out there - I would love to hear from you!

This web site is great, not only for cancer patients and there families, but for people that aren't aware of what the disease really is. I mean every body knows what "cancer" is, but not so many know how the disease is caused and just who it effects. I have had 3 people in my life diagnosed with cancer. My uncle(in the eye), my sisters best-friend(leukemia) and a school mate(leukemia). Sadly, only my uncle was a survivor but he's still in remission. I want to help in the search for a cure, and although I am only 16, I plan to do whatever I can. I now know the meaning of everything counts.
Sincerely,
Crystal Pontes

I realize that this page is for the Canada Candlelighters,
but i am seeking any and all information i can find. I am a
19 year old sophomore at Rhodes College in Memphis TN. I am
a pediatirc cancer survivor. I was diagnosed with Stage 3
neuroblastoma when i was 6 months old. I had surgery and
four rounds of chemo, and was off treatment by the time i
was a year and a half old. Fortunately i do not remember
my experiences, but it is a cause that is close to my heart.
I want to go into Pediatric oncology or hematology when i
finish school. I am currently wanting to start a support
group like candlelighters of Canada in the Memphis area.
Memphis is home of St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital
(www.stjude.org), one of the largest hospitals for children with cancer and
cancer research, but there is no suport network in Memphis
for parents, families, friends and children with cancer.
Any advice or information or encouragement would be
appreciated, as well as anyone who just wants someone to
talk to about cancer. Thanks!

I had never heard of Candlelighters until I received one of those annoying charity phone calls (how can they always phone at an exactly wrong time?) I have to tell you that while the spiel was good, I was suspicious of the legitimacy of the charity because of the caller's noticeable American accent. I guess I had images of a huge call centre somewhere in the U.S. where they have little idea about what they are raising funds for. I finally asked her if there was a web site that I could check out and I must say that I'm impressed with it. It leaves no doubt in my mind that you are "legit" and do some pretty wonderful things (the list of corporate sponsors was also very impressive), so I guess you'll get my donation. I did think you might be interested in my impressions of your telephone soliciting, because other folks may have the same reaction but not bother checking further, therefore the comments. Good luck!

that CCF-Candlelighters is certainly one of my favorites....just knowing
that i'm helping to fundraise for thousands of children and their families
reminds me of how important it really is to help others in their time of
need, especially the children.....they deserve the best. Best wishes to
all the kids and their families.......never give up, and god bless.

I just wanted to say that, I think the Candlelighters is a great,
great idea and something that needs to spread to all members of all communities.
So many people need the support of an organization like your self. I personally
will spread the word. I think most of us nowadays are touched by some child
we know or have heard of with cancer. It is not their fault and we must
do all we can to ensure they have a chance to have a good life. Myself
and my daughter are both cancer survivors and we see and enjoy life where
others do not. Keep up the good work and I will pass along the good work
that you tirelessly continue to provide.
Thank You for your time--------Ray.

A great organization with some zanny people keeping it together.
In memory of my aunt, Annie Valin, 1929-1947, died of leukemia. If only
there was an organization like CCF then, it may have been of great help
to a good but poor family.

I have a Girlfriend, who's youngest daughter(12) was diagnosed with
Brain Tumours.
They have been under tremendous stress as a result. I have done as much
as I can to help, support etc.
I WANT TO DO MORE!
Which prompts my letter to you.
I'm seeking information on starting a non-profit agency. With the goal
of raising funds for organizations such as yourselves and many other Cancer
related
Organizations. I realize this is a huge step. But perhaps you could send
me some information or advice on how to best set up an organization such
as this.
Any input would be appreciated.
Thank You in advance, and keep up the Excellent work.
