Melanie Keats
Melanie is working on her doctorate at the University of Calgary. Recognizing that cancer is a disease that goes beyond the physical, Melanie's work centers on the understanding of the role of physical activity for improving the quality of life of pediatric cancer survivors.
As a two-time childhood cancer survivor, a bereaved sibling to a brother lost to leukemia, and a family member of many lost to various forms of cancer, Melanie hopes that her personal experiences with the disease will provide a unique insight into the development and implementation of effective programming for childhood survivors and their families.
As co-chair of the Foundation's Parent and Survivor Advocacy Committee, it is her goal to represent survivors on a national basis to ensure that we continue to strive to find a cure, while at the same time gaining a better understanding of the long-term effects of treatment. "Success" to Melanie means focused efforts on the biological, psychosocial, and behavioral consequences of diagnosis and treatment.
