2004 Pharmaceutical Challenge Campaign

The Childhood Cancer Foundation - Candlelighters Canada is proud to announce the 1st Annual Pharmaceutical Challenge Campaign. This campaign enables Canada’s pharmaceutical industry to participate in one of the most important health-related causes in Canada today - the elimination of childhood cancer!

Pfizer Canada steps up to the challenge

and makes the inaugural donation

We are asking Canada’s Pharmaceutical companies to join us in our battle against childhood cancer. Responding to this urgent call for support, Pfizer Canada has made a $25,000 lead donation to “kick off” this campaign. “Supporting this campaign was not only an easy decision, but also an honour.” says Theresa Firestone, V.P. of Government and Public Affairs for Pfizer Canada. “It ties into our role as one of the leading pharmaceutical research companies in this country and also as a corporation that recognizes its responsibility to our communities and their children. Pfizer is proud to issue this challenge to the Canadian pharmaceutical industry: match our donation of $25,000 and change the life of a child with cancer.”

“Support from the corporate community, pharmaceutical companies in particular, is key to the achievement of our research goals,” notes Kal Tobias, President & CEO of the Childhood Cancer Foundation. “I would like to thank Pfizer Canada for their generous lead gift on this campaign and urge other pharmaceutical companies to join Pfizer in making a gift in support of all Canadian children afflicted by childhood cancer.”

This campaign is being launched at a time of great importance. Our research and programming dollars are being stretched ever more thinly by the increasing demands from treatment centres and families across Canada. The possibilities of achieving new breakthroughs and successes in the areas of medical research have never been higher - we have the ability to make a difference in the lives of over 10,000 Canadian children each year, but we simply cannot do it without the support of caring corporate citizens.

Our goal is to raise $100,000 from the pharmaceutical industry in 2004 to dedicate towards childhood cancer research. This research will be conducted in association with the Council of Canadian Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Directors, who represent the 17 research centres across the country.
