A Timeline of Landmark Events

2002

Development Coordinator hired to raise funds solely for Pediatric Oncology Research.

2001

Received $892,000 donation from the Bay. Proceeds from the Sparkles Charity Bear.

2000

Fourth international conference held in Toronto, Ontario.

2000

Candlelighters Canada funds pediatric oncology research in partnership with the Canadian Institute of Health Research.

1998

Third international conference held in Montreal, Quebec.

1998

Housing of the International Confederation of Childhood Cancer Parent Organizations (ICCCPO) Secretariat.

1997

"Break even" budget predicted at year-end representing first year of independent operation.

1997

National Parent Group Facilitator Training offered.

1997

Door-to-door campaign begins nationally.

1996

Extensive telemarketing campaign increases our donor base in 9 months from 1600 to 45,000.

1996

National Resource Centre opened.

1996

The Childhood Cancer Foundation moves to its own national office (Yonge & Eglinton).

1996

Second international conference in Calgary, Alberta.

1995

Parent Group Facilitator Training Program offered in Ontario.

1994

First international Candlelighters conference organized by the Childhood Cancer Foundation Canada and co-hosted by Parent Groups in Atlantic Canada.

1994

Recognized by Health Canada as official organization for children with cancer and their families.

1994

Received $600,000 grant from the Trillium Foundation to implement the pilot Pediatric Nursing program in Ontario.

1993

Affiliation agreement terminated with the Canadian Cancer Society.  The Childhood Cancer Foundation ~ Candlelighters is now an independent organization.

1993

National Needs Survey conducted by Executive Director.

1992

Bursary program implemented for survivors of childhood cancer.

1987

Incorporated and charitable status granted.
